Tiverton and Honiton MP Neil Parish has visited under-threat Colyton Fire Station to show his support for the work carried out by local firefighters.
The visit coincided with a public consultation over the future of how some fire stations in Devon are crewed. Proposals under consideration include the potential closure of the station.
Mr Parish visited the station in Colyton with county councillor Iain Chubb. The visit followed a public protest outside the fire station, with local residents calling for the station’s future to be safeguarded.
Writing on Twitter, Mr Parish said the visit was ‘to show our support for their department’.
He commented: “A hard-working group of trained firefighters and part of a great local station.”
Mr Parish went on to encourage local residents to have their say and take part in the consultation.
The station at Budleigh Salterton is also under threat and East Devon MP Hugo Swire is seeking ‘further clarification’ over cover for the town should the closure go ahead.
