Businesses across East Devon are being urged by police to ensure their staff are trained to spot counterfeit money.
An alert was issued today (August 9) following reports that fake £50 notes are in circulation.
In a message to business owners, a spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Police would like to make you aware of the following scam which could affect your business.
“A number of counterfeit £50 notes are currently in circulation in this area.
“Please be thorough when checking currency and ensure your staff are trained to spot counterfeit currency.”
If you are unsure of what to look for, businesses are urged to check advice from the Bank of England.
