Plan for new care home in Exmouth town centre

Plans for a new care home in Exmouth town centre have been unveiled.

Proposals for a change of use at 63 Exeter Road have been submitted to East Devon District Council (EDDC) this week.

Applicant Kahanah Care is seeking permission for the house and its annex to be used as a nine-bed residential care home.

The firm already runs the Miramar home in the same street.

Sixty-three Exeter Road was described as an ‘incredibly rare opportunity to purchase a completely refurbished freehold property providing versatile accommodation suitable for a number of different uses’ when it went on the market for £550,000.

Kahanah Care’s plans state: “Our application is to change the existing residential property into a registered care home…to be registered with the Care Quality Commission as an extra location to our already-established home in Exmouth.”

The firm says in its application that it has exchanged contracts on 63 Exeter Road and is waiting to complete its purchase.

Miramar residential home, at 145 Exeter Road, was rated ‘good’ overall by the CQC following its latest inspection in February.

EDDC will decide the fate of the application.
