Memorial tree planted in Honiton to mark Hilda’s generosity

A staunch supporter of Honiton 55 Plus Centre has been remembered today at a poignant tree planting ceremony.

The Mayor of Honiton, Councillor John Zarczynski, who is chairman of the Orchard Way centre, planted a tree in memory of Hilda Harding.

Hilda generously bequeathed the centre money to buy a new industrial dishwasher.

Cllr Zarczynski said the piece of kitchen equipment was now installed and is fondly referred to as ‘Hilda’. There was enough money left in her bequest to buy a tree. A plaque bearing her name has also been installed.

The sapling was planted as the centre marked its fourth anniversary and the opening of a new garden.

The tree was planted in the garden at a reception attended by district councillor Phil Twiss, centre users, staff and committee members. Also present were representatives from MG Wale Landscapes Limited which transformed a previous garden at the centre.
