UPDATE: Sidmouth helicopter manhunt was prompted by Exeter burglary, say police

A police helicopter manhunt in Sidmouth was sparked by a burglary 20 miles away in Exeter.

Suspects made off from the city in the early hours of this morning (Sunday, August 4) in a vehicle that was subsequently found in the seaside town, according to a force spokesperson.

Officers, a dog unit and the NPAS helicopter conducted a search of the area in a bid to find the occupants of the vehicle.

The Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said this afternoon that the suspects had not been located and that an investigation was continuing.

The burglary in Exeter was said to have taken place at around 1.15am.

Police tweeted an appeal for information early this morning and said a search for three men was taking place for three men ‘trying to avoid’ the NPAS helicopter from around 2am onwards.

Anyone with information can contact police on 101, or email 101@dc.police.uk, quoting log number 90 of 04/08/19.
