Volunteers ‘desperately’ needed to secure future of Charter Day

The future of Honiton Charter Day could depend on you. Organisers have issued an appeal for volunteers, saying they cannot guarantee the continuation of the event without more help.

The one-day event is one of the most popular summer attractions in the town, offering something for everyone.

Writing on its Facebook group, the committee said: “We really, desperately need more people to join our gang to secure the future of Charter Day and the charities we support.”

The statement added: “So please, if you would be interested in coming on our relaxed committee, or even give a few hours running up to or on the day, we really need to hear from you for we cannot guarantee the continuation of Charter Day without your help.”

Charter Day marks the anniversary of Honiton being granted a market charter.

This year’s event spanned the town centre and Allhallows Playing Field. It included live entertainment, stalls, a classic car show, tractor run and hat-themed competition. Other attractions included music on New Street corner, Punch and Judy and majorettes.

If you can help to keep this vibrant event on the town’s annual calendar, visit the Charter Day’s Facebook page and send a message.
