Exmouth celebrates medal haul and set sights on Surf Lifesaving GB National Championships

Exmouth is gearing up to compete in the Surf Lifesaving GB National Championships later this month after scooping an impressive haul of medals at the Devon Region Masters competition.

Exmouth Beach Rescue Club teamed up with Surf Lifesaving Devon on Sunday, July 21, to host the Devon regional Surf Lifesaving competition, with six out of the nine Devon clubs taking part.

Exmouth came third overall, winning a haul of 17 gold medals, 10 silver and four bronze.

Now the Exmouth team is looking ahead to  August’s Surf Lifesaving GB National Championships to be held at Branksome Chine, in Dorset.

An Exmouth Beach Rescue Club spokesman said locals and holiday makers were entertained throughout the day by some of the most experienced lifesavers the county has to offer, with plenty of hard-fought battles both on the beach and in the water.

The spokesman said: “Despite being one of the smaller clubs in the region, Exmouth entered an eight-strong team, contesting many events across most age groups.

“Points stacked up throughout the day thanks to some amazing individual and team performances.

“All the hard work paid off for the locals with Exmouth coming third overall just behind the two regional super clubs of Woolacombe, in second, and Saunton Sands – the overall winners.

“The Exmouth medal haul was equally as impressive with seventeen golds, ten silvers and four bronze medals won throughout the day.

The spokesman added: “The club’s sights are now set on the Surf Lifesaving GB National Championships to be held at Branksome Chine in Dorset later in the month, incorporating the Inshore Rescue Boat National Championships.”
