Call for volunteers as Honiton mental health support group enters third year

A group set up to plug a gap in mental health support services in Honiton hopes to attract volunteers as it moves into its third year.

Open Arms East Devon, which meets at Dunning Court Community Centre, is also seeking trustees.

The organisation helps those looking for friendship to interact in a supportive environment.

It champions social inclusion through a range of activities and helps people improve their confidence and overall well-being.

Charity Mind was forced to close its base in the town, having operated a range of mental health support services for many years from premises in High Street.

Local initiatives had included a popular gardening club, based in Offwell, and one-to-one support.

Open Arms East Devon runs regular drop-in sessions in Honiton and recently held a successful art exhibition. It will stage its annual general meeting at the community centre in Dunning Court on August 6.

The meeting will start at 2pm and anyone interested in volunteering or becoming a trustee is encouraged to attend.
