Person treated for burns after tractor destroyed in fire at Upottery

Two fire engines and a water carrier have this afternoon tackled a tractor fire in Upottery where one person was treated at the scene for burns to an arm.

Firefighters from Honiton were en route to the blaze requested additional support after seeing ‘a lot of black smoke in the distance’.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze occurred in a farmyard and that a tractor and trailer were destroyed. A nearby outbuilding suffered five per cent fire damage.

One crew from Honiton and one from Chard, along with a water carrier from Danes Castle, attended the blaze at 2.12pm.

A spokesperson said: “A supporting officer was also mobilised to provide additional support.  On arrival crews confirmed one agricultural vehicle and trailer well alight and got to work extinguishing and trying to prevent further fire spread.”

Four breathing apparatus, one compressed air foam jet, two hose reel jets, one thermal imaging camera, one triple extension ladder, two pitch forks and a pump from the water carrier were used to tackle the blaze.

The cause of the fire has been determined as accidental.
