After years of debate over what to do with an eyesore in Honiton town centre, a solution may have finally been found.
The town council has announced this afternoon that it has entered into talks with the Thelma Hulbert Gallery over the future of the corner of Dowell Street.
At the junction with High Street, the strip of land has proved a headache for a succession of councils.
Projects to paint the wall and tidy up the space have provided temporary respite from unsightly mass of concrete.
In some cases, councillors have personally carried out the work.
Ambitious plans for the eyesore were once scuppered by doubts over the ownership of the wall.
In a statement today, Honiton Town Council said: “Following a very productive meeting with the Thelma Hulbert Gallery, it is hoped that this area will soon be revitalised.”
It is understood that an art project that reflects Honiton rick history could form the basis of regeneration work.
The council is advising residents to ‘watch this space’ for further information.
