Axminster Town FC play the fourth game of their pre-season on Thursday, July 25, evening when they entertain last season’s Western League Premier Division champions Willand Rovers (kick-off 7.30pm).
To date, the Tigers have played three pre-season games, beating Wincanton 1-0, losing 1-0 to Sherborne Town.
Most recently, they won 5-1 in the Beer Albion Centenary match played at Furzebrake.
Tigers’ joint boss Josh Stunell is delighted with how the pre-season has been going and says: “We have put together a terrific squad full of quality and are in a great shape ahead of this new campaign.
“Ashley Small, to Elmore, and Charlie Skilton, to Beer Albion, are the only players we have lost from last year’s squad and we have added some serious quality with the incoming of a number of players from Bridport from whom we have signed goalkeeper Jason Hutchings central midfielder Dan Peach and striker Richard Hebditch.
“We also have a commitment this season from Glen Gould who spent last year with Willand Rovers and, all in all, we are looking well set for the coming season.”
Thursday night’s Tiger Way meeting with Willand Rovers will be a big test for this new-look Axminster Town FC team.
Stunell says: “Johnny (joint-manager John Hurford] and I really could not be happier with how things have gone so far. We certainly seem to have created a special atmosphere in the dressing room and there is plenty of optimism about the challenges ahead.”
Kick-off in the meeting with Willand Rovers is 7.30pm and admission is £3 for adults and free for U16s.
Axminster Town begin their new life as a South West Peninsula League Premier Division East side with a Wednesday, August 14, East Devon derby date at Sidmouth Town (7.30pm).
