PHOTOS & VIDEO: Sidmouth Duck Derby 2019 – colourful fun is top of the bill in The Byes

Sidmouth went quackers for its annual Duck Derby today (Sunday, July 21).

The tradition, organised by the Lions Club of Sidmouth, attracted huge crowds to The Byes.

There was plenty of fun on offer for children with a big slide, bouncy castle and ice creams.

Youngsters took part in a host of ‘duck and spoon’ races – and mums, dads and grandparents also got to compete.

The Corporate Duck Race, sponsored by local businesses, began the colourful action on the River Sid.

And then it was time for the main event  – when hundreds of little yellow birds were tipped into the water and raced downstream to the finish line by the weir at Salcombe Road.

This year’s main charity beneficiaries of the Sidmouth Duck Derby will be Exeter, East and Mid Devon Samaritans and the Devon Air Ambulance Trust.

The 2018 event raised £5,200 for charity – and organisers are hopeful today’s fun will have raised another sterling sum for good causes.
