Fire crews from six stations have battled a fire that severely damaged a building in Farway this evening. Breathing apparatus and a thermal imaging camera were used to prevent the blaze spreading to a nearby thatched roof.
Crews from Honiton, Colyton, Sidmouth, Ottery St Mary, Seaton, and Middlemoor were mobilised to deal with the fire – in a detached workshop adjacent to the thatched property.
The incident was reported to the emergency services at 6.44pm.
A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “On arrival crews confirmed the thatch not involved in the fire, but the shed was well alight.
“Crews got to work putting the fire out using one hose reel jet, one compressed air foam jet and one main jet backed up from a street hydrant.”
The incident report states: “Crews then committed breathing apparatus wearers with a thermal imaging camera. Western Power engineers isolated the electricity to the building.
“The fire was extinguished and the cause was deemed to be accidental. The outbuilding was severely damaged in the fire.”
