VIDEO: ‘I love Honiton because…’

Exactly a week before Market Charter Day, we took to the streets of Honiton to ask residents, visitors and stallholders what they love about the town.

Unsurprisingly, people told us they appreciate Honiton for its friendliness, independent shops, market, and close proximity to major road links.

Jeannette Parker, of Stitched Up, in High Street, said: “I love the wide range of independent shops. People are very friendly. A lot of us all know each other and we try to get get on well and work together, if we can.”

She has lived in the town for 23 years and has made many friends.

“I love the market because we have different concepts of things coming in,” Jeannette added.

“I enjoy my shop, doing what I do. I enjoy the colours. I enjoy the textures. It’s a very, very friendly place to live.”

James Cady, of Howling Wolf Coffee, thinks Honiton offers great value. He got lunch and a hair cut for just a tenner.

Meanwhile, Richard Salisbury said he loves Honiton because he is a keen cyclist and it is well placed to reach everywhere, from Bristol to Cornwall.

Liz Reed is a regular visitor to Honiton. She said: “It has got a lovely, rich history and lacemaking. I make lace and I like visiting the museum.”

Honton resident Betty Fowler said: “I love Honiton because it’s a nice, friendly town and everyone is friendly.”

And last, but not least, shopkeeper Carla Salisbury said: “I love Honiton because of the diversity of the independent shops.”
