College wins award for sport

Honiton Community College is celebrating after being presented with a top award for sport.

It has gained the School Games Silver Mark Award.

The award recognises the college’s commitment to developing competitive sport across the school and in the wider community.

Facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust, the accolade follows sustained cultivation of sporting talents and interest in games.

The college said in a statement: “We are extremely proud of our students for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.

“As part of our application, we were asked to fulfill criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our college has been rewarded this year.”

Thanks have been expressed to the college’s physical education department for it extensive extra-curricular provision. Special thanks have been paid to school games organiser Kevin Moran as well as parents and carers.

They have given competitive sport a boost by supporting fixtures and providing transport for students on a weekly basis.

The college says it intends to apply for the award again next year.
