Sidmouth Regatta 2019 promises fun for all the family

Fun for all the family with free-to-enter events for prizes are planned for this year’s Sidmouth Regatta.

The two-day gala, Saturday, August 24 and Sunday, August 25, will help boost funds for the RNLI through donations.

Saturday’s entertainment includes traditional sea-based activities, a raft race, live music and fireworks, plus Exmouth RNLI’s lifeboat.

Family fun for all ages takes place on Sunday. All events are free to enter with generous prizes up for grabs.

Wet weather plans are in place for the drawing competition and the fancy-dress events in case of rain.

A cash prize can be won by those taking part in the regatta’s Sidmouth shop window competition.

A Sidmouth Regatta spokesperson said: “The idea is to provide some fun events for local families and visitors who wish to join in and a more serious side for those who wish to take part in the sailing races.

“Over the years the event has enabled the local branch of the RNLI to profit from collections during the Saturday evening events; these collections over the years have amounted to a substantial sum.”

Organisers said traditional sea-based activities take place on Saturday, ending with live music and a spectacular firework display.

Earlier in the day is the popular raft race followed by a courtesy visit from the Exmouth’s RNLI lifeboat, if the weather and operational duties permit.

Sunday’s events are for children and their families, said organisers. The events are all free to enter with generous prizes.

Wet weather contingencies are in place for the drawing competition and the fancy-dress event, should the weather become inclement.

Have fun looking in Sidmouth’s local shops trying to find the numbered discs. Shops taking part will display a competition poster.
