One of Honiton’s best-known buildings could be in line for a facelift. Copper Castle, at the top of Kings Road, is the subject of a Listed Building Consent application.

Located next to the town’s former tolls gates, the building is is a private dwelling.

The applicant is seeking permission to repair and replace the ex-toll house’s existing render.

The application also includes the addition of castellation to a single-storey roof and a replacement porch.

Members of Honiton Town Council’s planning committee were due to consider the merits of the application on Tuesday, June 11.

Also proposed is the creation of a door, the movement of a staircase and repairs to the roof an floor joists.

Copper Castle was recently placed on the market and, according to RightMove, is sold subject to contract.

The asking price was in the region of £235,000.

Dating back to the early 19th century, it is said to retain many period features.

Over the past two decades the property has been extended. However, the sales particulars pointed out it was now ‘dated’ required immediate attention.
