Honiton tree works given green light

East Devon District Council has granted permission for tree works to be carried out at two locations in Honiton.

A hornbeam, a hardwood flowering tree, at 1A Joslin Road is to receive a crown reduction of no more than 20 per cent.

This will involve the removing of branch lengths of up to three metres,

At the same time, the tree’s crown will be lifted to ensure it is five metres clear of a public highway. This work will not involve the removal of first order branches.

As well as improving safety for high-sided vehicles passing the tree, the work will allow more natural light into nearby properties.

In other Honiton tree works, a giant redwood at 5 The Pines will be pruned to prevent ‘branch failure’

Protruding branches are to be shortened back to the crown. At the same time, dead and broken branches within the crown will be removed, Honiton Town Council has been told.
