Anger as vandals target trees in Exeter park

A spate of criminal damage to trees in an Exeter park has prompted a plea for information.

Vandals have deliberately stripped four lime trees and a pine of bark at Well Oak Park – near to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital – with a handsaw and hatchet.

Exeter City Council has urged anyone who knows anything about the damage to contact police.

Councillor David Harvey, lead for environment and city management, said: “The fact that this has been done amid a backdrop of the country losing hundreds of thousands of trees through ash dieback makes this even more frustrating.

“This is nothing but criminal damage and I would appeal to anyone who has any knowledge of the attacks to contact the police.”

Police can be contacted by calling 101, or by email at 101@dc.police.uk.
